5 Essentials for a Successful Home Page

The home page is undoubtedly one of the most important parts of your website, but surprisingly it can be often overlooked.

After all it’s important to keep in mind the your home page is the FIRST think that visitors will see and first impressions count!

That’s why I came up with this list of a few key things to consider when creating the home page for your website.  This list will help guide you when it’s time to make a site mockup and plan out the content you’ll need for your site.

Here is the list of 5 essentials for your home page:

1. A CTA  What is a CTA you ask? A CALL TO ACTION is most commonly found in the form of a button ( it literally “calls people to take action”) on your site that might lead to a booking page, a contact form or a product purchase.

2. HIGH QUALITY PICTURES  A picture is worth a thousand words after all and it’s super important for your potential clients to see what they’re getting in the absolute best way possible.  Whether that mean you take the time to get some great images of your products or you hire someone to have some headshots taken of yourself, nothing shows visitors that you’re serious about your business more than professional high quality images.

3. A CLEAR, NAVIGABLE MENU Nothing is more annoying than visiting a website and not finding exactly what you’re looking for. Your website menu should not only be clear and concise (i.e. no links to unnecessary places) it should also be easy to access and have clear indications of hover status and drop down menus.

4. A BIT ABOUT YOU Whether you are a service based business and you want to talk about yourself (this is where those professional headshots come in handy) or you sell a product, your site visitors want to know about the business.  Where are you located? Who do you serve? What do you offer? These are all important to build trust and credibility with your potential clients.

5. A WAY TO GET IN TOUCH One of the major reasons someone may visit your website is to get in touch with you.  That’s why it’s a great idea to have a contact form or link to your contact page right there on your home page so that they can shoot you a quick message or send you and email and ask any questions they might have.
